Ruth Wyand is an award-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist. She draws on American roots music to frame her lyrics and demonstrate her strengths as a guitarist, songwriter and vocalist.
'A Journey down an American Music Highway' is a multi-media concert which covers 150 years of American Music from the Civil War to the present. This concert allows people of different cultures to get a glimpse of the trials, tribulations, and triumphs that have helped shaped America’s national character. The concert also brings to light how similar Americans are to the rest of the world. Wyand created this show in hopes of strengthening the ties between the U.S. and other cultures through musical exchange.
The program comprises segments which focus on people who have held a prominent place in the pantheon of American musical and cultural history from Steven Foster to Bob Dylan. In addition to performing musical renditions from each historical era, Wyand injects humorous anecdotes and other stories of the singers, songwriters, and musicians who have made up America’s musical tapestry.
During each section Wyand performs a composition of various artists while visually displaying the artists’ portraits, performance photos, and other appealing artefacts of their time. The significance of each artist is brought to life through the lens of each era.
