Exquisite Corpse is based upon the Surrealist picture game of the same name wherein a drawing is built by a succession of artists who can see nothing but a tiny sliver of the previous artist’s work.
To date, sheets of paper and half-completed drawings, prints, paintings and sculptures have been dispatched by the gallery to a group of sixteen artists; some with self-nominated partners and others, chance marriages. Very different approaches to the brief have seen artists work with the figurative, abstract and geometric, and media ranging from photography to oil paint and paper to clay.
The exhibition will feature eight works by the following collaborative partnerships: Stafford Allpress/Sarah Williams, Tabatha Forbes/Sophie Watson, Natatsha Cantwell/Kristin Perrett, John Appleton/Paddy O'Rourke, Mark Rayner/Richard Freestone, Maree Wilson/Tracey Black, Kim Lowe/John Pusateri and Janna van Hasselt/Rebecca Thomson.
